Shearling Jacket Size Guide: How to Find Your Fit

Buying a shearling jacket online feels risky because you cannot try it on. It does not have to be. Shearling is thicker than most jackets, so it fits a little differently, but five minutes with a tape measure is enough to get it right. This shearling jacket size guide shows you how.

Why shearling fits differently

The wool lining adds bulk inside the jacket. That means the same chest size can feel snugger in shearling than in a plain leather jacket. The suede also relaxes with wear, so a jacket that feels slightly firm on day one usually softens within a few weeks. Plan for the lining, not just your body.

What you need

A soft tape measure and a friend if you can. Wear a thin shirt, the kind you would wear under the jacket most days. Stand relaxed and do not pull the tape tight.

The four measurements that matter

  1. Chest or bust. Wrap the tape around the fullest part, under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
  2. Shoulders. Measure straight across the back from one shoulder edge to the other. A jacket that is too narrow here will never feel right.
  3. Sleeve length. Start at the shoulder edge and go down to your wrist bone with your arm slightly bent.
  4. Jacket length. Measure from the base of your neck down to where you want the hem to sit. Shorter bomber styles sit at the hip. Longer coats fall to mid thigh.

For women, also note your waist and hips if you like a fitted look. Write the numbers down and compare them with the size chart on the product page. Our jackets are offered from XS to 3XL.

How much room should you leave?

Think about what you will wear underneath. A thin shirt or light sweater needs only a small amount of room, so your normal size works. If you plan to layer a thick knit or hoodie, go one size up. If you are between two sizes, pick the larger one for a shearling jacket, because the wool lining needs space to sit comfortably.

Fit by style

Aviator and bomber jackets are cut close to the body with a shorter length. Go with your measured size and check the sleeve length, since these jackets have a snug cuff.

Long shearling coats have more room through the body. Pay attention to shoulder width and length so the coat hangs straight.

Biker styles are cut trimmer. If you want to layer, size up.

Quick answers

Should I size up in shearling? Only if you plan to wear thick layers or you sit between two sizes.

Will the jacket stretch? The suede softens and moulds to you a little, but it will not grow a full size. Pick the right size from the start.

Is the sleeve length adjustable? Not easily, which is why we ask for your sleeve measurement. Tell us if you need it longer or shorter.
